History Seeds of Literacy is an adult literacy project that grew out of the awareness of a need to provide basic education to the adult population in Cuyahoga county neighborhoods. In 1997, to honor a 125 years of service to the Diocese of Cleveland, the Congregation of St. Joseph decided to provide start-up funds to an organization that incorporated their ministry. Sr. Kathleen Kilbane submitted a request to begin an adult literacy program in neighborhood communities. The project was selected because of the potential for ministering to a growing need in the city and as a sign of recommitment to the less fortunate of the diocese.
