Seeds of Literacy, an adult literacy program sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph in Cleveland, is celebrating its 10th Anniversary this year. Seeds was started by Sr. Kathleen Kilbane in 1997 as a way to reach out to adults in need of tutoring assistance in math and reading. There are now 10 literacy sites in the City of Cleveland and over 1,000 students have been helped by the program, many of whom have received their GED as a direct result. Please help us in congratulating the Seeds board, staff, tutors and all the students who have been touched by the program! Seeds of Literacy Speaker's Bureau Available In our ongoing effort to get the word out about Seeds of Literacy, we have formed a speaker’s bureau. If you belong to a civic group, club or other organization that hosts speakers at your meetings, please consider us! Our presentation is professional and brief (10-15 minutes), and is intended to educate not only about Seeds, but about literacy in general. We also offer the opportunity to become a volunteer tutor and provide information on how to apply. Book clubs, Friends of the Library, Rotary, Kiwanis, PTA, and church groups are some examples of those who have welcomed our message. |
